Ethics in end-of-life care

People in the last stage of life are often in particular need of help and protection. The SAMS has been tackling issues related to end-of-life care for decades.

Decisions about end-of-life care place great demands first and foremost on the patients themselves, but also on their loved ones and the medical care team. As early as 1976, the SAMS published medical-ethical guidelines on topics related to «end-of-life» care. These guidelines have been revised on a regular basis, and set the standard for medical action in this area.
