In its function as a think tank, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) aims to encourage reflection on challenging issues in medicine and help shape developments. It strives to support professionals in the health system and serves politics and society in its role as a provider of expertise and advice.

Our health system is constantly evolving, with new insights opening up possibilities in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Primarily in collaboration with partners in the health system or in association with the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, the SAMS tackles issues with a view to exploiting the opportunities of modern health care and prevention and overcoming the challenges that arise.

With this aim in mind, the SAMS publishes position papers, recommendations and reports, organises or supports scientific conferences and establishes structures and networks.
